The most critical component of a historic home renovation is marrying the antique house to the addition or remodel. Additions demand true craftsmanship to meet that need. In nearly a half-century of historic home renovations, Tom Turcketta Building and Remodeling has displayed the ability to design custom additions that seamlessly match our clients’ antique homes, whether the home was built in 1700, 1910 or 1960.
It must look like it’s always been there. For example, you don’t want to put on an addition on a Greek Revival house that looks like it was built in the 1960s.
Custom Historical Additions
This work relies heavily on the understanding of old buildings and period design details. Tom has diligently researched historic periods so that we can accurately reproduce the shapes of molding and utilize techniques like dovetailing and other joinery techniques to restore and renovate everything from Colonials to Greek Revivals to Victorians to the finest detail.
We understand the technical building changes since the 1800s, and how the nature of framing varies depending on the region and period.
The only limit to what we can do is your imagination. We have built additions to antique homes that required a new full foundation, and added second levels and dormers. We have created new historically sensitive entryways, and historically accurate custom-designed doors. We have also renovated and restored porches, as always with an eye toward maintaining their historical detail.

Historically Sensitive Renovations
We can fashion an inside staircase to a second-level dormer that could include a TV room, a master bedroom and a full bathroom, with custom bookcases in the hallway at the top of the stairs and a custom curved window serving as the defining features.
As always, we design and build everything in our shop, including custom made moldings, and bring the product directly to the site of installation.
Complete General Contractor Service
We will be with you from start to finish, serving as the general contractor and utilizing our long-standing relationships working with local subcontractors, architects and vendors throughout the process of completing your historic home addition and renovation.
